Anyone living in Georgia knows the message. Your bank, your internet provider, or the electricity company sends an SMS like "Tqvens angarishze chairicxa tanxa", Georgian words spelled with Latin letters. Paste that into Google Translate and it detects Maltese, or answers with confident nonsense. The text is not a language Google knows. It is Georgian in disguise.

The fix is a two-step: first convert the Latin letters back into Georgian script, then translate. This page does the first step properly and hands you to Google Translate for the second, with your converted text already filled in.

The "properly" matters. In the chat alphabet the letters t, k, p, q, ch, ts, j, z and g each stand for two different Georgian letters. A dumb letter-for-letter converter turns half the words into misspellings, which then mistranslate. This tool tries every possible reading of each word and keeps the one that is a real Georgian word, ranked by how often it appears in actual spoken Georgian. Why can’t Google Translate read Georgian written in Latin letters?
Google Translate expects Georgian in the Georgian alphabet. Text like "gamarjoba rogor xar" is the informal chat alphabet, an unofficial way of typing Georgian with Latin letters, and there is no fixed spelling for it. One Latin letter can stand for two different Georgian letters, so machine translators either refuse it or guess badly. Convert it to Georgian script first, then translate.

How do I read a Georgian SMS written in English letters?
